The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was sentenced of plotting a armed takeover in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he remained under house arrest pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after "new facts" were revealed.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was convicted of orchestrating a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the national vote to his ideological adversary, Lula.

High Court judges said that he knew of a plan which involved plans to kill Lula and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been managing the former president's case.
